Freshwater Marshes Zone 8

Vegetation is primarily herbaceous, not woody, and accumulations of large amounts of peat on top of sediments or limestone is common. Most marsh plants need fertile soils and standing water most of the year to do well. They tolerate some shading, but not salt exposure. Water depth determines the distribution of floating, submerged, and emergent aquatic plants.
